The person whom I am nominating is Anna Nikishina. Anna is actively involved in the sport of figure skating , commencing at the age of 5 and a half year; she is now aged 11 years. Anna commenced skating as a result of a recommendation by an orthopaedic specialist in an attempt to correct hip displasia, splayed feet and talipes valgus. However, the result of this was to lay the foundations of her pursuit of success in competitive skating. Anna is the current Australian Figure Skating Champion in the Primary Ladies Division, winning this title in December 2015 at the Australian Figure Skating Championships in Penrith, New South Wales. Anna is under the expert tuition of George Galanis and Kara Johnson, training at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in NSW, 6 days a week. She is required to train both on and off the ice.
Value to the Individual
Figure skating is Anna's passion. As a result of her desire to succeed, she studies by Distant Education which enables her to train 6 days a week, both on and off the ice. The influence on skating in Anna's life is enormous, her whole way of life is centred around skating and this of course impacts on her daily regime. Skating has had a positive effect on all areas, teaching her important life skills such as self discipline, motivation, patience and good organisational skills amongst other things. This can be seen as helping her to develop positive foundations for good life skills in the future. Also, skating has positive fitness benefits!
Why the funds are needed
If successful, the funds would be applied for the purchase of new equipment, in particular, new figure skating boots and blades as well as a competition costume. Figure skaters require they boots/blades to be replaced at least once a year. The following is a cost breakdown of the brand of boots/blades that Anna is currently skating on: 1. John Wilson Gold Seal Blades : $659.00 2. Risport RF 1 Boots : $529.00 3. Costume : $500.00
