Balga Boxing Club is a non profit organisation which trains 5-6 days per week we have 15 competititive boxers and at least another 30 kids who train with the hope of one day competing. We also have a couple of disabled kids who train with us and are part of our club. We are one of the countries leading clubs and travel extensively interstate to get our boxers the much needed competition they need to stay at the top level. We raise all our own funds to enable this travel and buy all our own equipment. We are in a low socio economic area and many of our boxers are youth at risk. We aim not only for them to become better boxers but through the discipline of boxing we endeavour to make them valuable members of society.
Value to the Community
In Balga simply giving the local kids an activity and an outlet for their emotions is crime prevention. We are not teaching these kids to fight on the street, instead they are learning to channel their energy into something positive and something for them and their families to be proud of. It's hard to measure the good our gym does for the community by statistics but by talking to some of the parents you would here some amazing stories about the changes it has made to their children.
Why the funds are needed
We need a new canvas for our ring, one of our indigenous boys has been selected for the State team which will cost us half his airfares and accommodation as his family doesn't work approx. $500,our rent is $416 per month, one of our youth boxers who is 3 times National Champion has a physio bill of $180 per fortnight of which the club pays half, none of our coaches are paid all of our subs goes back into the club.
