About Box Hill Rugby Union Football Club

Founded in 1958 and with over 300 members, Box Hill Rugby Club is one of nine rugby teams competing in Victoria's Premier Division Rugby Competition. The club is based on the corner of Middleborough and Canterbury Roads in Box Hill, Victoria. In 2015 our 1st XV were Mino Premiers in this competition and our 2nd XV were Premiers. The same success was also achieved in another format of rugby with the club crown Victorian Sevens Champions. This result came off the back of winning the tournament 'wooden spoon' in 2013. A multi-cultural family club that is host to many events after the main rugby season is completed which include the Fijian Festivals, Pacific Islands Sevens & Sri Lankan Sevens Tournaments.

Value to the Community

We have 5 key Community and Corporate Responsibility goals; 1) To improve the Box Hill Broncos junior section by providing better coaching equipment, facilities and experience for our 150 junior members. 2) To develop a community coaching programme, utilising our professional and amateur athletes to coach rugby in local schools and raise the standards of the tuition they receive. 3) To work in partnership with a local university to develop a pathway for its Sports Exercise Science Undergraduates. 4) Organise coaching workshops and Referee development courses for school teachers and club coaches. 5) To form and develop a Box Hill 'Fillies' ladies team to compete in the Victorian Women's league

Why the funds are needed

It costs approx. $170,000 per annum to run and maintain the rugby club which is a non-profit organisation. With a large portion of our senior players heralding from less fortunate backgrounds, registration fees alone do not cover the costs associated with the club and the playing equipment & playing field is impacted by this. With one of our key goals being to relaunch the women's team, if successful in the application process, the funds would be utilised to purchase new playing jerseys, shorts & socks for the ladies team at a cost of $65 per set (jersey, shorts and socks) for a team of 23 players.
