About Coastal Assassins - Blood Diamonds (A Grade team)

The Coastal Assassins Roller Derby (CARD) league is a not-for-profit sporting organisation dedicated to promoting flat track roller derby on the Sunshine Coast. As the Sunshine Coast’s premier, member-owned and operated roller derby league, it is our mission to maintain a competitive athletic program, promote the sport of roller derby, provide quality sports entertainment for our fans, and make a positive impact in our community. Our league programs and multiple teams embrace skaters of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds and strive to provide opportunity for our female and male members to participate to their full potential. CARD was first established on the Sunshine Coast in 2010. Last year, we were accepted as an apprentice team to The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) which is the international governing body for the sport of women's flat track roller derby.

Value to the Community

The Roller Derby community is a universal family brought together by, and for the love of, the sport. It does not rely on big business or substantial sponsorships. It is, by and large, self funded and continues to grow because everyone involved volunteers large amounts of their time to do their part to grow a sport and its associated community. Coastal Assassins Roller Derby prides itself on being involved in the local community through volunteering at events, fundraising, flyering and promoting of local businesses at home bouts. We also offer the opportunity for local sponsors to setup a table or booth at our home bouts. Sponsors have the option of having their organisation’s logo placed on our bout programs and can even qualify for complimentary bout tickets for their organisation.

Why the funds are needed

The Blood Diamonds have been successfully chosen to attend "The Great Southern Slam" which is held for three whole days, June 11-13 2016, at Adelaide Showground, South Australia. Roller derby teams from every corner of Australia and New Zealand come to compete against each other. The team representing CARD will consist of 14 players. Funding will help towards the costs of travel, accommodation and skater fees.
