We are a small competitive and non-competitive swimming club with 50 members based at the Coolum Peregian Aquatic Centre, Coolum Beach, QLD. The swim club has been operating for 10 years, encouraging swimmers of all abilities and ages to participate in a fun and relaxed environment but with opportunity to compete if desired. The pool is a central and important sporting and recreational facility to the local community, the only public pool with a 20km radius, the nearest being Noosa Heads or Maroochydore. The club has it's swim night on a Wednesday night with participants racing their own times amongst their peers in a non-threatening environment allowing growth and encouraging long term participation in swimming.
Value to the Community
Being the only local swim club and public pool in the local area servicing the surrounding suburbs and population of Twin Waters, Bli Bli, Pacific Paradise, Coolum, Mount Coolum, Peregian Springs, Peregian Beach, Marcus Beach and Marcoola, it provides the opportunity for all ages and abilities to participate in swimming and join like minded individuals and families in a relaxed environment. The team when competing at swim meets across South East QLD represents our local area in swimming and demonstrates to other areas we are a professional, friendly and hard working swim club. Our swim club has members from diverse backgrounds and members with a disability and learning difficulties - we embrace diversity and encourage all members of our community to come along and enjoy the love of swimming. Swimming is such an integral part of our community, being near the beach it is paramount to learn to swim.
Why the funds are needed
The club is in need of the following: - new equipment to for dry land activities (activities conducted on land to help with your core) - Stretch cords, benches, medicine balls and drag n fly resistance swim belts - $500. This equipment will assist swimmers to understand that good swim technique relies on a strong core. - club uniforms for competitive swimmers that attend meets - $500. To date our club has never had a uniform. All swimmers turn up at meets in their own gear. Other clubs look professional and part of a team in their club uniforms. We would like to compliment our professional attitude with a club uniform. This will give the members a sense of pride, unity and show others what region we come from.
