Our club started in 2013. In 2015 we had 120 members, and all of those compete in our local competition. Around 25 were selected last year to then represent our club in the regional competition in Katanning. We are hoping to send even more this year. Girls compete in floor, beam, uneven bars and vault in levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. Boys will compete in floor, pommel, rings, high bar, parrallel bars and vault in levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. This year for the first time we will also be sending a number of groups to the team gym competition in Perth. These teams consist of 12 members each in the novice and intermediate divisions. Teams compete on the tumbletrak and the minitramp as well as performing a group routine.
Value to the Community
Our team is representative of our whole club, and we are bringing fitness and well-being to our community. Our kids are improving their health through fitness, flexibility, coordination and strength. They are also gaining social skills, self-esteem, confidence, new friends and a real feeling of being a part of a fantastic sporting family. Through the challenges of gymnastics these kids are learning to meet the challenges of everyday life, and as they get older they are able to give back as we are training kids to become coaches as well.
Why the funds are needed
We are in the process of putting in a funding application to DSR for a gym shed ($100,000) so that we can train more than once a week and leave the equipment set up (it takes an hour to put it out and an hour to pack away). We also need new equipment including tumbletrak $3500, double minitramp $4026, vault table $2014, matt rolls(4) $1500 each, crash matts $2000 each and we will need a lot of extra matting/podium/surrounds for equipment when we are able to move into our new shed. This year we would also like to get new leotards with long sleeves and sparkles (we currently have very basic training leotards) which would cost $90 each. We hope to send 25 athletes to comp, so that is $2250.
