About Edith Cowan University Cheerleading Club

The Edith Cowan University Cheerleading Club is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to provide quality recreation and skill development in the sport of cheerleading, for all students of Edith Cowan University. We wish for people to recognise us as a friendly, fun-filled, hard-working, and amazing team, and to accept the sport as one that requires dedication and athleticism. We aim to provide ECU with an official sports supporting group, as well as a competition squad at Local, State, and National events for cheerleading. The ECU Cheer program consists of multiple level Varsity competitive squads. Our athletes compete at a variety of events throughout the year, with our Level 2 Cheer team recently placing 1st, our Level 1 Group Stunt team placing 1st, and our Level 3 Group Stunt team placing 2nd in their divisions, at the Cheer Unlimited Australia WA Stars N Stripes Cheerleading Championships in November.

Value to the Community

All-Star, competitive Cheerleading is what most people recognize as "Bring it On /ESPN Cheerleading". It is a fast paced, dynamic sport that encompasses stunts, tumbling, tosses and dance and requires dedication and a strong work ethic from all athletes. It is as physically demanding as any other mainstream sport and is one of the fastest growing team based athletic sports in Australia, growing at a rate of 30% each year. ECU Cheer are an integral part of Edith Cowan University's social and sports divisions. They bring optimism, sportsmanship, and great performances to the thousands of students who are enrolled at the university, as well as to the Joondalup and greater Perth community. This team encourages students of all ages to get involved in sport, and smashes negative stereotypes to promote this positive, family-friendly, and fun sport!

Why the funds are needed

The funding would be used to provide the team with much needed training and safety equipment to help the team progress their skills as quickly and safely as they can.
