The Hawkesbury River Dragons began in 2011. With 50 members we paddle on the Hawkesbury River from Brooklyn, on Sydney's Upper North Shore. We compete in both Metropolitan and regional regattas in sprint and long distance events. In the 5 years since we started, Hawkesbury River Dragons have built a committed team, and this year were able to compete in events for open, women's, and over 40's groups. We aim to be a competitive club with a strong focus on remaining inclusive and social.
Value to the Community
We are an inclusive team, welcoming members of all ages and fitness levels. All that members need is a great team spirit and the desire to improve. The age of our members range from 21 to 70 giving all paddlers access to a fantastic low impact exercise, including cardio, resistance and endurance training. We encourage people in the surrounding suburbs to come out and enjoy our beautiful waterways, getting fit and healthy at the same time!
Why the funds are needed
We need funds to update our safety equipment. This includes: - new lights for our boat - high vis safety vests for twilight paddles - Dry bag to store first aid kit and phone for emergency contact - Any remaining funds would go towards race shirts which are required to compete in regattas.
