The H&GBC (founded 1945) Tball Program has been operating since the 1970s but more importantly at our grounds at West Lakes Shore for over 5 years now, problem is, our equipment looks like it is from that era also. Between 30 and 60 Tballers take the diamonds on Friday nights through Summer learning baseball fundamentals such as batting, fielding, throwing and base running. The program is community based, we rely on volunteers to run it and it provides youngsters between the ages of 4 and 8 to get outside and enjoy playing a sport with their mates. Our need for updated equipment is crucial and would include bases, tees, bats, balls, gloves and equipment bags. Aussie Tball have introduced Aussie Tball Kits which would be perfect for our program since they include squishy bats and balls, just what the younger kids need.
Value to the Community
Our Tball program allows boys and girls from the ages of 4 to 8 experience a team based sport which generally kids of this age group are denied. Schools and many others sports don't allow playing to begin at such a young age. It provides these kids with a sense of belonging, teaches them sportsmanship, how to win or lose gracefully, to improve hand/eye coordination and the ability to get out of the house, run around with mates and have some fun. These kids generally then go on to participate in baseball at our club and softball at our sister softball club, Port Adelaide. And from another angle, our Tballers are coached by U15 & U17 junior baseballers which develops their leadership skills.
Why the funds are needed
Our Tball equipment has not been updated for more than ten years. Bags we use for equipment at each skills station have perished, that is a main concern because we cannot move equipment around without bags! Aussie Tball have a complete Aussie Tball Kit that comes with bag, 3 squishy bats, 12 balls and 3 sets of bases, cones and 3 tees that we need desperately. We do not have a full set of bases at the moment, and with up to 60 kids playing we will need at least 3 diamonds in progress on one session, therefore 3 Aussie Tball Kits would be perfect. Aussie Tball Kits 3 x $355 (include equipment noted above) Aussie Tball Kit Freight 3 x $35 (needs to be shipped over from Sydney) Easton Team bag on wheels 3 x $109 (these bags will act as skills station equipment bags) That is a cost of $1497.00 (we also need to replenish our gloves but 60 Wilson 10 inch A200 Tball Gloves at $30 a pop is a whole other grant in itself!!!).
