About Hervey Bay Rollerz

Hervey Bay Rollerz is a non for profit sporting organisation that was established in 2012. Our league offers the women of Hervey Bay an opportunity to be a part of the unique up and coming sport of Flat Track Roller Derby. We also encourage men to join as referees and non-skating officials and are also very excited to coach children 3yrs to 18yrs in our junior league, which was the first ever junior league in the bay. We currently have 29 adult members and 15 juniors, with everyone volunteering their time generously to run every session. All our members work hard throughout the year to build on their skills and work towards bouting for the new season. and we are happy to be able to offer our junior members coaches that have been trained and certified through Skate Victoria.

Value to the Community

The Rollerz participate every year in Relay for Life raising much needed funds for cancer research and not long ago we attended the local sports expo held at the PCYC promoting healthy, active living for locals. We are regulars at our local Bunnings manning the BBQ for sausage sizzle fundraisers and last year we held a junior roller derby scrim with teams from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Bundaberg attending! More recently we have started holding Friday night disco skate nights which we open to the community for a gold coin donation. These nights have been very successful with numbers growing weekly, giving children something fun, active and safe to do on a Friday night.

Why the funds are needed

Being a small local club run on our kind volunteers/members, we would love some extra money as our club grows! New uniforms for our members, new equipment, helping to pay for our hall hire...the list is endless. We would love to be able to purchase new equipment as the cost of joining our sport is quite high. Members need to pay insurance, track fees, plus buy skates and safety gear which all up can cost around $500. It would be great to give new members hire equipment to use until they can afford to purchase their own. The Rollerz would also love to be able to purchase uniforms for all members. Currently members are having to purchase their own, and added to the general cost of the sport, this can be quite expensive. We haven't had new uniforms in quite a while, particularly our junior members. We would also love some funds to go towards our Friday night fun nights which are now open to the public. We only charge a gold coin with the Rollerz contributing the rest of the money for the hall hire fees. Equipment - $900 Uniforms - $400 T/Facilities - $200
