About Hillcrest Christian College

Hillcrest Christian College will be nominating 4 teams to participate in the Australian Schools Championships (ASC - Nationals) in Melbourne in December. We will be sending U15 Freshman boys and girls team, and pending results from Champion Basketball School of Queensland tournament in Brisbane in September, either under 17 boys and girls or Championship Division (Division 1). We will be taking 48 student athletes and 8 support staff away to Melbourne for this exciting competition which will be the culmination of a year of training. Our student athletes started training for these championships on Day 1 of term 1. Heading into term 2, the momentum is building, fitness and strength is on track, the Speed and Agility Programs along with our Jumps Program are seeing awesome results. The roster for Games and Tournaments have commenced and already results are positive with two wins from two.

Value to the Community

Being that we are in a school community, our secondary students are encouraged to participate and get along side of our junior students by attending junior training sessions and assisting the coaching staff. This year, 10 of our basketball students have agreed to participate in a 'Feed the Homeless"program that our College Chaplin is involved with. Although this has been a challenging situation to see, our students have gone beyond the request to 'lend a hand'and have donated personal items such as jackets, blankets and sleeping bags to assist the homeless even further.

Why the funds are needed

The funds requested would cover the nomination fee of one team attending ASC in Melbourne. Students have to raise the full monies to cover their air fares, accommodation, transportation and food whilst in Melbourne. This grant request, by covering the cost of the nomination fee, would assist students that are struggling to meet the payments required. Thank you for submitting this grant request, your time is greatly appreciated.
