House Darksun is a historical European martial art (HEMA) club located in Perth, WA run entirely by volunteers. Darksun has existed since early 2000 however over the past 12 months we have experienced exponential growth going from 10 members training in a park to a current membership of 60.
Value to the Community
With martial arts being the major focus, Darksun provides not just physical benefits to our community, but mental health benefits as well. Focus, discipline and respect are core to our training ethos. Feedback from members indicates that the supportive environment combined with our ethos contribute not just to their martial art training but to their personal well being too, which feeds into communities and workplaces outside of HEMA training.
Why the funds are needed
Currently we are unable to safely teach take downs and grappling. Crash mats would mean we will be able to add these techniques and skills to our training curriculum. This will help ensure the team traveling to the HEMA Nationals in September is in the best position to compete.
