I started riding mountain bikes with my dad about 3 years ago in Charity events for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and rides for Cancer research. I joined the local Bike Club and started competing in local competitions and found I wanted to advance my skills even more. I attended a training camp at the Institute of Sport in Canberra and decided I would really like to start competing at a higher level. In the first 2 years I could win local and regional races and finished in the top 10 at a National level. This last season I have finished in the top 5 at National level and managed a 2nd and a 5th at Oceanias in Queenstown, New Zealand. As a result of my success I have been selected by Mountain Biking Australia to compete in the World Championships in Czech Republic in June, 2016.
Value to the Individual
Mountain Biking has had a huge influence on my life. It has given me more confidence and stronger social skills which also reflects into my academic studies at school. I have worked hard to reach this goal and and I am extremely proud to be chosen to represent my Country at the World Championships. I travel with my whole family to all the events, both nationally and regionally and they have been a great support.
Why the funds are needed
To travel to the World Championships is at our own cost of $8,000.00 plus attend a camp in Cairns and Brisbane. While Dad and Mum have supported me greatly so far I really wanted to contribute and perhaps do some fund raising of my own to help. Our travels with mountain biking have taken us all over Australia. As well as regional and local events National rounds were this season in; Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and ACT and also the Oceanias in Queenstown New Zealand.
