This team is made up of ten 17 year old girls of from our local area desprite to play representative netball. They were unable to play last year as they were unable to field a team and secure a coach. However this year they are back and really happy to be heading to Newcastle. Our local area in northern NSW Maclean and Yamba is a low socioeconomic area with a prevalence of youth mental illness and suicide. Earlier this year the girls lost a close friend to suicide and many of the girls are struggling themsleves with mental illness as well as getting money together for the cost of travel and shoes.
Value to the Community
All these girls have incrediable ability on court however our goal for the girls in this team is to bring them together as allow them to feel the benefits of being fully supported in a team. I believe this in turn can benefit our local community by rippling through hopefully connecting and encouraging more of our young people to become involved in a sporting team environment.
Why the funds are needed
This money could contribute to paying for travel, accommodation and fees involved in going to the state titles in Newcastle.
