About Marcoola SLSC Board Relay Team

Marcoola Surf Life Saving Club is located on the Sunshine Coast approximately an hour & half north of Brisbane, we are situated just north of the Maroochydore River. Our dedicated lifesavers provide volunteer patrols from September to May each year. Our club has always had a strong lifesaving focus - only a handful of our members have dabbled in Surf Life Saving competition as a means of staying fit and active. However in 2017, our club will be present with a unique opportunity to participate in. For the first time in many years both the Qld State & National Surf Life Saving Championships will be held on the Sunshine Coast. We have a Under 50's Male Board Relay Team, which consists of 3 long term members - in training & wanting to have a crack at a State & National Title. All we need is a board to paddle!

Value to the Community

We are hoping by sending a Under 50's Male Board Relay Team to the State & National Surf Life Saving Championships, we will inspire our members - particularly our youth members to get involved in Life Saving Competition. We have some fit, committed members that just require some encouragement to give it a go. The 3 men involved in competing at these two events will be proud to represent the Club. Training and competing together will instil values such as teamwork, comradery & mateship. As well as ensuring fitter and more skilled lifesavers patrolling our beach.

Why the funds are needed

As mentioned above, Marcoola SLSC primary focus is patrolling the beach & saving lives. As a charitable organisation all our funds go towards upgrading & maintaining essential lifesaving equipment. There is never enough money left in our operating budget to purchase competition equipment for our members to train on & compete with. In fact, competing members in the past have been required to fund their own equipment. A new competition board will cost $2250.00, we are requesting $1450.00 from the Thermoskin Community Fund Sports Fund that would partly fund the new board. Our 3 competing members will be required to raise the additional $800 through weekly raffles at the club. We would love to see this team compete & do Marcoola SLSC proud at State & National Championships.
