The Warriors were founded in 1985 and are Victoria's most sucessful gridiron club in terms of Vicbowl championships.WE are based within the City of Monash and train at Moansh University and a municipal oval. We field teams in both Div 1 and Div 2 of the Gridiron Victoria senior men's competition and also a JUNIOR (15-19 year olds) team in the junior comp. In total we have around 150 players, coaches and volunteers within the club. WE are seeking to field a women's team and a junior junior (11-15 year olds) in the near future. We are a very inclusive club and have members that are originally from over 15 countries. We also have two senior players who have special needs but who have training and field assignments tailored th their abilities. The
Value to the Community
Gridiron has recently had rapid growth in Victoria, expanding from 5 senior and 4 junior tealms in 2011 to 13 senior, 6 junior and 8 ladies teams in 2016. The sport literally has a position that suits any body shape. You don't need the aerobic capacity of other football codes as the palys seldom last more that 6-7 seconds. So long as you know what your task is in a particular play you can be a sucess in the sport. As mentioned above we are a cultural melting pot where people come together for a common purpose. . Our junior program has had four kids receive US colleg scholarships in the last 5 years. One, Adam Gotsis, is expected to be seleceted in this year's NFL Draft. We are now looking to introduce the womens team and the junio juniors to increase our inclusiveness within the local community
Why the funds are needed
As mentioned above we are seeking to start a women's team and an 11-15 year ol junior ASAP. To do so we need to increase our club stocks of smaller helmets and pads. To attract new players to the game the Warriors provide such safety equipment to rookies and juniors as part of their club fees. If players stay on past their first year they usually buy their own gear. To optimise player saftey we try to turn over the club helmets every few years. As mentioned above we need to increase our stocks of smaller helmets and pads to be able to field the proposed new teams. A $1500 grant would enable us to buy 7 or 8 helmets.
