North Coast Academy's 2015-16 Netball Squad is made up of 24 female athletes aged 14-16 in 2016 who reside in the North Coast of NSW. Some senior squad members have been part of the group for 3 years. Our Netball Program is a foundation sport of the Academy, since our inception in 1989 (27 years). Our netball coaching team includes three coaches and a manager who all volunteer their time and expertise tirelessly.
Value to the Community
The Netball program we offer is not offered by any other group in the North Coast and is an essential part of the Netball NSW Athlete Pathway. The Academy covers an area over 500km's from North to South. Because of the great distances the girls need to travel for training and competition dates they are disadvantaged when compared to their city counterparts. Their families face financial burdens which add up into the thousands (for a single athlete) and we've had instances where squad members have had to drop out of the squad because of this. If we can help alleviate some of the burden then we are on our way to helping our athletes achieve in their sport, their life and their community. Sport is the glue that holds regional communities together - we want to keep these great activities available for all our regional athletes.
Why the funds are needed
We need the funds to help offset the cost of transport for the team to travel from the North Coast to Maitland, NSW (14 hour/12000km round trip) to compete at the nib Games 13-15 July. This is a compulsory competition date on the Regional Academy Team calendar and an event the girls always enjoy. The bus is quoted to cost $7000 for the three days. Receiving funding from Thermoskin will directly help the Netball Squad by making the travel costs smaller and help take some pressure off their families. Including meals and accommodation, this tournament will cost approximately $15000 for the squad (this is one of eleven Academy events annually).
