About Old Canberrans Hockey Club Juniors

Old Canberrans juniors (11 to 18 years) and Hook In 2 (4 to 10 years) currently consists of 4 junior girls teams, and two mixed Hook In 2 Hockey teams. Old Canberrans was established in 1936 (80 years this year) and has always had a successful junior and hook in 2 hockey representation for both boys and girls. In recent years we have been unable to field any junior boys teams, and our girls teams numbers are dwindling away slowly due to a number of factors including cost to play hockey and the pull to play other sports such as soccer, football or netball. Our club is run by a dedicated group of Volunteers across all levels, from coaches, right the way up to our clubs president and has a strong sense of community and

Value to the Community

Promotion of a healthy mind and body through sport and social contact with club members of all ages and backgrounds. Fulfilling a role in our community by introducing children to the benefits of a healthy sporting life. Promotion of hockey as one of the finest athletically based team sports. Promotion of our juniors into senior ranks.

Why the funds are needed

Old Canberrans is a not for profit organisation that relies solely on sponsorship from the community to assist our players with lowering the cost of their fees. The cost for a child to play hockey due to the cost of facilities can be anywhere from $200 to $300 per season, not including personal equipment such as a stick and bag, shin pads, mouth guard uniforms etc. Our goal is to boost our junior teams numbers through our Hook in2 Hockey program with the aim to have boys teams in the competition again in the near future. We require additional funding to help up purchase new junior uniforms (some of which are up to 10 years old) and training equipment to ensure we are able to provide our children the best hockey opportunities available.
