Phoenix is our Novice Synchronized Ice Skating Team, from Brisbane Queensland. We are a team of (hopfully) 16 skaters between 9 and 13 years old. At the moment we are recruiting new skaters to join us. We will compete at Clubs and State Championships and at Nationals in Melbourne later this year. We are fundraisig for back packs, as we need them to carry our skates in at Nationals at the competition. Synchronized Ice Skating is all about looking the same and doing the same routine on ice with all 16 skaters. It is a great team sport, and really nice to watch for spectators. The girls in the team form great friendships, and most of all it is a great sport for girls to do!!
Value to the Community
Our team has girls from all around the area, the sport is so nice to watch, that we have people stopping and commenting on the team, and how nice they look etc. Our Club hold two Gala (show case) performances per year, where every team in the Club perform, wheater they are beginers or competitive skaters. The general public is invited with tickets costing only $10 . Our Club also regularly use their allocated ice time to hold Fun skate sessions with snow play for the little kds. We use it as a fundraiser for us, but for a lot of little ones this is the first time they ever see ice or snow!
Why the funds are needed
We have fundraised last year and earlier this year so the girls could have team jackets, and we are almost ready to buy these, leaving a gap of $25 for every skater to pay. The next thing we need now, is 16 identical back packs, big enough to fit a pair of ice skates ( plus other items) for every skater, these back packs cost $59 each. The team could also use funds to help with their upcoming trip to Melbourne for the competition in November, but we like to do one thing at the time, and would be very grateful for new back packs! Once we have managed that we will get back to fundraise, do raffles and sausage sizzles etc.
