About Qld Taekwondo Team

Though there have been Nationals for many years there has been political issues within Taekwondo that have impacted on participation. Organisations were split. 2016 will be the first year of our unified sport championships and Qld clubs will come together for the first time. This team will be significant in bringing Taekwondo back together in our State with EVERYONE able to join the process and put the politics aside. We want the team to look unified and develop a culture of inclusion and collective support in participation.

Value to the Community

This team will bring immeasurable value to the Qld Taekwondo community with plans to have everyone in the same team shirts for the first time. Children and senior athletes (18-30), along with a small number of Masters (30+) will be travelling to Bendigo to compete. The value to the Qld community will be inspiration and motivation of other competitors as the sport pulls itself back together (out of a 10 year hole). With the event in August and very close to our Olympic participation in Rio this is the best opportunity the sport has had to inspire these young athletes and their coaches and families into the ongoing and future development with a new culture of inclusion. There is also a new level of inclusion of para-Taekwondo participants and Qld will have team members in that space.

Why the funds are needed

The money (with additional funds from TQ) will provide a unique shirt for members of this unified team that will be worn by all Qld team athletes and coaches at the event. Thermoskin contribution will be acknowledged on the shirt, along with Qld Government and a design that will motivate and unify the team members.
