The Shepparton Bears Women's team is the fist open women's AFL team in the Goulburn Valley. This will be the first season for the women's team. The Shepparton Bears Football Netball Club were the strong drivers of this team & have been a wonderful suppor in getting this team up and running. The team is located in Shepparton, approx 2 & half hours north of Melbourne. The team is open women, open to women 18 years and over of all skill levels & nationalities. The team has a core group of 20 players, 5 officials and are always looking to grow.
Value to the Community
The team provides the an opportunity for women over the age of 18 to play Women's AFL for the first time in Shepparton. It brings together like minded women offering them the chance to be physically active in an all female team. The team is made up of players from different nationalities making it very multi-cultural. It is a team for players of all abilities and skill level. It brings inclusion to the local community, promoting a healthy life style for women.
Why the funds are needed
As this is the first year of the team, players have a big out lay of costs including membership, insurance, football boots, mouth guard and uniforms just to name a few. The funds would be used to provide each player in the team with a club uniform that must be worn to each games. This would include a club polo shirt, hoodie & track pants for each player, coach & official. The club polo shirts would be payed for first, then hoodies and work down the line until all funds were used. This would help off set the cost to players and officials.
We are also have a number of members including the coach and team manager on twitter.
