About Skittles

The Skittles Netball team have been together from when they were 5 years old. They all played net set go which is beginner netball for a year, then moved through to higher grades as they improved with their netball. They now play in junior A grade team and are still all together. There are 9 in our team, growing all the time, as teenagers do. They play in a local competition in Biloela, a small town an hour and a half drive from Rockhampton. Its a great team of girls who have been together for 8 years.

Value to the Community

Our team of girls play together on a Tuesday night its a great sport for all kids to play in our local area as activities are limited in our region. We are constantly trying to maintain a high level of facility and equipment so we keep our local youth stimulated in the area. The team also travels to city areas when possible to compete at state and regional carnivals representing our great local community, this helps to improve their skills , knowledge and level of completion in the state. The Skittles team have passed down their out grown uniforms to younger girls in our local community that are just starting out in netball.

Why the funds are needed

The girls are growing out of their old team uniforms and need to get into new ones for the upcoming season of Netball. The team is consistently approaching business houses for sponsorship, but due to the downturn in the local industry and recovering from last years floods, funds are becoming increasingly hard to get. Biloela is a small regional rural community of about 5000 people. They have organised small fundraising days to help get them on their way to purchase new uniforms but our community is barraged with local sporting clubs all trying to get back on their feet. The funding available from this grant would assist greatly to achieving this goal. The new uniforms consist of team shirt, singlet top, skirt/shorts and a set of bibs. At a cost of approx. $2100.
