About Stafford Roller Sports Club

The Stafford Roller Sports Club has operated out of the Stafford Skate Centre since 1971 where it operates junior, youth and senior roller hockey training and competition games weekly. Over the course of the year the club runs approximately 200 hockey sessions with up to 30 people participating in each session. In any season the club membership reaches approximately 70 financial members and also caters for general public through introduction to roller hockey sessions held weekly. The club membership includes current and past members of the Australian roller hockey team. Our Roller Hockey teams - Junior, Youth and Senior teams travel throughout the year in competitions from Melbourne, Glen Innes, Townsville and this year we hope to again get team members selected in the Australian teams playing against NZ in Auckland for the Trans Tasman Cup. We are only 1 of 2 Clubs offering roller hockey in SE Qld.

Value to the Community

The Stafford Roller Sports Club aims to foster roller sports in SE Queensland and is one of the largest roller hockey clubs in Australia. We have year round fun and fitness for all ages out of the hot Qld sun. All enjoy friendship, camaraderie and pride in their achievements whilst developing core strength & coordination. The club aims to develop the sport through: - Encouraging and providing an opportunity for potential players to try out roller hockey. - Providing regular competition opportunities to junior, youth and senior players. - Developing senior players to national and world championship level standards. - Developing and accrediting new coaches and officials. The club’s activities include: - Weekly introduction to roller hockey for the general public. - Weekly roller hockey training for junior through to world championship level players. - Regular competition roller hockey games for all ages. - Participation in international & state competitions.

Why the funds are needed

1. Our preference is to use the funds to purchase a specific and distinctive Stafford Roller Hockey team sublimated design uniform for all youth and junior age divisions for when we represent the club at events. The uniform sets (shirt & shorts) are $65 per set and $1500 would enable us to buy approx 20 sets with some funds remaining for: 2. As our protective pads and gear were purchased in 2012, there has been over 3 years of Qld heat, sweat and tough wear and tear gone into our gloves and pads. We also have grown in our youth ranks and some kids as young as 6 or 7 are playing and they need small sized gear. Some of the funds would be used to purchase a couple of these smaller sets of gear at about $100 per set for shin/knee and gloves.
