About Tathra Sea Eagles AFL Club Womens Team

Tathra AFL Club was founded in 1983, based on the far south NSW coast. The long term success of the club is worth noting given the very small population area and close proximity of AFL clubs in much larger towns in our regional area. Our Club has teams in the senior, reserves, women, junior and Aus-kick competitions. We have approximately 100 players and the same number of members. I am nominating our women's team in particular as they have been playing together for only 2 games. In three months the team has grown from 8 players to a full squad of 22. The women have shown enthusiasm, motivation and sportsmanship which is providing a great example to our men's teams and all juniors. They train with their full heart and regardless of their individual and collaborative skill level and fitness. Their value to our own club cannot be overstated.

Value to the Community

Given the size of our local community our women's team is recapturing significant attention to our football code in Tathra and surrounding localities. VALUE TO LOCAL COMMUNITY 1) Clear demonstration that equality for sexes should happen in all facets of our lives. In what is a conservative part of Australia there are many community members embracing and supporting our women's team. 2) The women's team is providing an exemplary example to our young people and children in our community that commitment, hard work, respect, healthy living, fitness, acceptance and friendship are all important. Many of our women are mothers and/or professionals who are not afraid to have a go and learn, make mistakes, win, lose and have a laugh. 3) Many of the women have commented that they are also valuing being part of a club that supports them and is willing them to succeed,

Why the funds are needed

TOTAL VALUE is $1468 As we now have up to 60 players or more at training plus game days we need additional training gear and equipment: Purchase of water carriers(2@$20) and bottles (12@$8.50) : $144 Training Bibs: 22 x $8: $176 Practice cones: 20 x $1.40: $28 Facilities upgrade: project relates to upgrading of home & visitor change rooms to make them cleaner, more hygienic, suitable for both men, women and juniors. 2 x deep water sinks ($490x 2) plus taps ($70 x 2): 1120 Each change room currently has a small sink that does not fit water bottles to be filled and can only be used for washing hands. They are not suitable for a space that has 22 players plus coaches etc before and after a game and for training days also.
