About Tea Tree Gully Gymsports State Members

Tea Tree Gully Gymsports (TTGG) has had 22 gymnasts successfully qualify, across a variety of gymsports, to represent South Australia at the upcoming National Championships in May. TTGG’s representatives this year are from Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and Trampolining; our club’s three most popular gymsports. Gymnastics is a physically and mentally challenging sport, with the athletes training between 12 and 15 hours per week; hence those few gymnasts who qualify are very talented and extremely determined. Several of the athletes competing in May have overcome serious injuries to take part in the trial process and meet the criteria. The competition provides the top gymnasts from level seven to ten around the country against to compete against each other to determine the Australian Gymnastics Champion for each level. This year the Championships are to be held in Melbourne at the Hisense Arena.

Value to the Community

Our sporting venue has over 2000 members going through our doors each week. These new and upcoming members see the State Team representatives training and are inspired by their dedication, skill acquisition and demeanour. Having gymnasts like these to aspire to, gives younger athletes at the club the motivation to remain in the sport longer ensuring they maintain fitness and health regimes throughout their childhood; as well as becoming organised astute members of the community . Aside from being good role models and enticing people to continue in the sport, the TTGG state team members also bring back medals and awards from their interstate triumphs which ultimately enhances our reputation and increases the number of people wanting to attend our club. Some of the members in this current team received a top three finish in the 2014 National Championships, South Australia’s first achievement of such magnitude in 21 years.

Why the funds are needed

As the National Gymnastics Championships are held in Melbourne, the team will need to fly to the location as well as pay for accommodation for the duration of their stay. TTGG hopes that this grant can assist with any travel expenses for each individual making it more realistic for everyone to attend. Whatever money is attained from this grant will be added to the fundraising pool and then divided equally between the individuals. The gymnasts and families can then deduct this money from their expenses whether it be for the travel, accommodation or even uniform costs.
