About Tegan Wright

I have been figure skating for just on 3 years now and in that short time have represented Queensland at 3 National level competitions. 1st competition was Wintersun Trophy in Brisbane Placing 6th, 2nd competition was Hollins Trophy in Sydney Placing 13th, and 3rd competition was Australian National Figure Skating Championships in Sydney placing 11th. My proudest achievement has been representing Queensland at the Australian National Figure Skating Championships, which I hope to attend again this year in Melbourne and improve on my ranking. I am currently ranked 11th in Australia out of 31. I also hope to attend the Asian Cup in Bangkok later this year to represent our Country. I am 14 years old and hope to only get better with more experience in my sport which will come from attending more National and International competitions.

Value to the Individual

Figure Skating means everything to me and has helped me improve my grades at school. I have been diagnosed with a learning disorder called APD and skating has actually helped me to improve on my focus which has then helped me to go from a D grade student to now a B grade student. When I skate I feel like I can achieve anything in life that I set my mind to and this has been wonderful for me in all aspects of my life so far. Before I found skating I had tried other sports but they just didn't stick like skating has. They say once you have figure skated that you will always love the sport and I believe this to be very true. I couldn't see myself doing anything else!

Why the funds are needed

Coaches fees for 2 weeks for preparation for Nationals $600.00 Airfare for Nationals $300.00 Accommodation for Nationals $600.00 As you can see from the above, this is just for me to attend the Australian National Championships and doesn't include other important overseas competitions that I would like to attend and also other National competitions to better my benchmark ranking. My family fund all of my skating and it is a very expensive sport to be part of, training fees alone cost my Mum over $300 per week.
