About Towns Villains Roller Derby Inc

The Towns Villains Roller Derby League (TVRD) Townsville, North Queensland is a not for profit league run by skaters for skaters and was established in April 2009. TVRD caters for skaters of all abilities, ages and gender. TVRD helps roller skaters (both competitive and social) and is inclusive and respectful of people’s abilities and aspirations. Women, men and children of all fitness levels are encouraged to attend and non-skating positions are also available for people who want to be involved in this sport. Our goal is to encourage fun and fitness via roller derby with a mission to develop fit, empowered & positive female role models, junior development and conduct regular charity fundraisers. Our newly formed junior league has successfully introduced children to routine physical fitness, team work and respect for each other. TVRD’s training program is designed to increase fitness gradually and is inclusive to all levels of ability.

Value to the Community

Our league offers an opportunity for all members of the community to access this activity for fun, fitness or competition experience. Our junior league teaches valuable life and social skills in a safe and supportive environment. Regular physical activity can improve quality of life for young people by improving muscle strength. coordination and balance. Our League also caters for men and women over the age of 50 with our oldest member turning 51 this year. We are non discriminative and are currently working with a young person with a mental health issue. This regular social outing, fitness program and community connection has been a positive experience in her life. Social interaction help build confidence, independence and mental well-being for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Why the funds are needed

Our club is unable to pay the hire fees at the skating rink and now practice at the local Police Youth Clubs. Preciously we have had access to the rinks training equipment and roller skates to hire to new participants wanting to try roller derby. We currently use our current members skates and safety equipment to implement come and try days to the wider community. We have no access to training equipment to better assist our League to undertaken a variety of training skills and drills. We do not possess any promotional materials that will help us attract new members or our existence in the sporting community. Junior safety equipment 8 sets x $45 = $350.00 Fitness and training equipment = $450.00 Signage = $200
