About Townsvillains Mixed Ultimate Disc Team

What value does your team bring to the local community? The Townsvillains are a team composed of passionate and skilled Ultimate Disc players from Townsville and surrounds, Queensland. The Mixed Townsvillians team, comprised of 20 male and female players, is relatively new, having formed in only 2010. Aside from working hard in our two Ultimate Disc leagues, our Mixed team is currently training hard to compete in the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships for Division II this coming September in Sydney.

Value to the Community

Ultimate is a fun, fast-paced sport that builds agility and cardiovascular strength, and at it's core, the "Spirit of the Game" ensures a friendly and fair atmosphere. Members of the Townsvillains help to organize, captain, and participate in two community leagues - one casual social league that has over 350 players, and one competitive league that has approximately 70 players. In addition, we have recently started a program that puts Townsvillains in local schools to help teach children the sport and the benefits of teamwork. Ultimate Disc has grown in Townsville over the last few years due to the hard work and efforts of the Townsvillains, who help to teach community members new skills and maintain an active lifestyle.

Why the funds are needed

Most of our income comes from our player fees, which help to pay for facilities and fields with lights during the regular season. We would like to keep player fees down, thereby increasing the accessibility of the sport to the greater community, by supplementing the cost of the facilities with a grant. We request $500 to help with field and light hire. We also request $1000 to help to supplement the cost of our team flying down to the Australian Mixed National Championship in September. We realize that $1000 will not completely fund the the flights for the team, but every little bit helps. In order to continue to help our team lower the cost of flights, we also plan to hold fundraisers and sell baked goods, etc. As a regional city, we have to fly in order to get to any national Ultimate Disc tournament, which is a huge financial burden for most of our players. Thermoskin could help us decrease the cost of these flights, and show that they are dedicated to helping rural sports teams compete at the national level.
