Travis started Race Walking about 8 years ago. During this time he has progressed to national level finishing 10th in the Under 17's 5000 metres Race Walk at the recent Australian Junior Championships held in Perth and finishing 3rd in the Under 17's 1500 metres Race walk at the recent NSW Little Athletics State Championships held in Sydney. Last year Travis finished 9th in the under 16's 5000 metres Australian Road Race Walk Championships held at Middle Park In Melbourne. Travis also finished 1st in the 16 years 3000 metres Race Walk at the last NSW All Schools Championship held October 2015 which allowed him to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships held in Melbourne December 2015. Unfortunately due to an undetected illness at the time Travis performed below his best. His illness is now being closely monitored with regular blood tests.
Value to the Individual
Travis loves his chosen sport of Race Walking. He says it keeps him fit. Leading an active life, Travis has been able to maintain a very high standard with his school work and is well liked among his peers and teachers. During his time at Racewalking, Travis has meet many new friends that share his same interest. His sport has also allowed him to travel to places in Australia that otherwise he would not have seen and experience the many assets that the other cities in Australia offer. Travis would like to keep on improving and one day represent Australia in some Race walking events held around the world.
Why the funds are needed
Funding is needed to enable Travis to compete at the highest levels of competition around Australia. Funds would mainly be spent on new racing shoes at approx. 120.00 per pair. (Travis would go through 3 to 4 pair of shoes in a calendar year, so 480.00 per year). Funding would also support travel and accommodation to events not held in Sydney. His recent race in Perth included a 480.00 return airfare and a 220.00 accommodation expense. His future events include 2 championships to be held in Canberra (June and August) for Road Race Walking. Each of these two events would require accommodation of 2 nights at about 120.00 per night. He also has a possible 2016 Australian All Schools Championships (if selected) at a venue that has not yet been announced.
