Ulverstone Basketball Association - U/14 Girls team. Consists of 11 players, coach, assistant coach and manager. Compete in NWBU Junior Intertown competition weekly - currently undefeated for 2016. The team trains 1 - 2 times per week and players participate in individual morning trainings (6am-7am) twice per week. The girls have been playing/training together since U/10 and are now beginning to see the results of their dedication. The team has set a goal to attend the Basketball Tasmania U14 State Championships in September with high hopes of success after finishing third last year. Four players also participate in the Basketball Tasmania - Future Development training program which requires large amounts of travelling from their families. The players and coaching staff also volunteer many hours each week to assisting the club's local rosters and other junior training (e.g. umpiring, coaching, bench scoring).
Value to the Community
The program at the Ulverstone Basketball Association aims to encourage girls of all levels to participate in a supportive environment and provide opportunity for players of all levels whilst creating "good people". The club's focus is not only basketball but also to teach punctuality, manners, friendship, nutrition and fitness, ability to listen and much more. If the club/coaches can succeed in helping provide one girl with the knowledge it takes to not only play basketball but also live a healthy active lifestyle and make some friends along the way then they have succeeded.
Why the funds are needed
The U/14 Girls Basketball team has proven that they are dedicated to their sport and each other - we would love to see this team succeed for the remainder of the NWBU roster and at the Basketball Tasmania State Championships in September 2016. The state champ tournament requires the team to travel to Launceston and stay in accommodation somewhere overnight - the $500 would be put towards covering the team's accommodation. This would be one less expense for the player's parents whom would still need to pay for fuel, food, competition entry and more.
