About UQ Cheerleading Squad

For us, cheerleading is less about standing on the sidelines - we are the sport. Our cheer teams cross the floor in amazing tumbling passes, and throw flyers up to 4m in the air; our dance teams compete with spectacular contemporary and pom routines that require months of training and skill to master. Our team began in 2014 after a group of enthusiastic athletes came together with a passion for cheerleading. Coming away with 4th place in their first competition at Nationals in 2014, UQCS has gone on from strength to strength since, including winning two 1st places at state competitions and 5th and 8th places at Nationals in 2015, and building a small but strong program to support our athletes. Our 40 athletes chase perfection in every moment, and your support will help us get closer!

Value to the Community

We provide a platform for our community to learn to dance and cheer, and opportunity to take those skills to compete at state and national levels while representing their university. Our squad has become a place where young men and women can make new friends that become family, get fitter than they thought possible, and have fun while doing it all. We also support other UQ teams and later on this year will be helping to cheer them on during games - theres nothing better than knowing you have the crowd behind you when you're on the field after all.

Why the funds are needed

Our four teams are entirely self-funded - most of our full-time university students balance their lives to work part time jobs and pay for what is a very expensive sport. This money would go towards the purchase of our performance props - in the same way other teams need things like bats and balls to play, we need new proper pom poms, signs, and megaphones. Our new-this-year contemporary dance team of seven also needs costumes to compete in.
