Established in 1896, the Whittlesea Football and Netball Club celebrates its 120th year of operation in 2016. Sporting over 450 active participants in junior football (male and female), three senior football teams and six open age women's netball teams, we participate in the Northern Football and Netball League in Victoria. Despite being involved in a metro competition, our Community is still very much rural based. The Club itself prides itself on its roots within the Community and being an active membership base within the community. We are and remain the hub for local sporting activities.
Value to the Community
The Club itself prides itself on its roots within the Community and being an active membership base within the community. We are and remain the hub for local sporting activities. We are in the midst of a renovation to our Clubrooms, which is phase 2 of a 3 phase program. On a Thursday night we serve over 160 meals within the rooms and in excess of 200 patrons attend the rooms to socialise, watch training, participate in raffles and functions along with gather in the local area. Being a smaller community, we are a major hub for activities. Home games are a revenue source for all local businesses, from the supermarket and newsagent, to the pub and baker. Without community involvement, we are unable to survive and without the Club, the community must travel in order to participate in amateur sports.
Why the funds are needed
Any funds obtained would be directly utilised in the provision of new equipment to the Club. As an affiliate body, all apparel and equipment used on match day must be purchased via the league. We would be utilising the $1500, if successful, on the purchase of match day footballs for the Club in which we are required to provide one brand new football and one used football to the umpires, whilst with senior football, we must provide two brand new footballs to the umpires for selection on a weekly basis. Although these funds would not fully cover the costs associated, as we require some 36 footballs at $100 per item for senior football alone, the funds would go a long way to easing the burden on the Club
