The Wickepin Football Club is based in a small town in Wickepin located 210 South East of Perth. We are a small, friendly farming community with a dedicated football team. Our club is run purely by volunteers. Without them there would be no club. We may be small, but we are full of life and enthusiasm for our football club. We have 3 grades of football A, B and D grade along with Auskick too. We have around 100 members and about 50 volunteers, including a voluntary committee. The majority of our footballers are Wickepin District locals, however, due to diminishing numbers within the area we do have to pay a few Perth playersto come and play for us. The enthusiasm around the club is really great!
Value to the Community
Each week our club gives the community the opportunity to watch a game of footy, socialise, volunteer therefore helping them be part of the small community that we have. For the players in all grades, it gives them the opportunity to be part of a team and gain life skills from this, along as keep healthy with all the training sessions and games. Our small community is majorly centred around sport and in particular footy!
Why the funds are needed
The funds will be put towards a new scoreboard for our games. At the moment we currently have a manual scoreboard and we find it hard to find volunteers to change to scores throughout each game. The electronic scoreboard will bring our club up-to-date, encouraging more people to come and watch our games as they will be kept up-to-date with the score throughout the game. We are retrieving the other funding through local sponsors and our own fundraising. The scoreboard will be used by other sporting teams within Wickepin such as Cricket and Hockey. It will also be used by the Shire of Wickepin, Facey Group and the Community Resource Centre during community days on the oval.
