Established in 1972 Wilson River Pony Club is located on the Mid North Coast of NSW. We are a not for profit organisation invested in the development of horsemanship and citizenship skills for all members. Our club has 3 instructors and 15 members. Our chief instructor has been with the club for over 20 years and continues to share her depth of knowledge and experience with our members and volunteers. Wilson River Pony Club has a great network of volunteers and support from local community members who assist and support our training days, competitions, working bees and fundraising activities. We hold regular training days covering a number of disciplines (Dressage, Showjumping, Campdrafting, Polocrosse, Team Penning, Mounted Games, Show Riding, Cross Country, Sporting and Trail riding), allowing all members to gain experience, knowledge and build confidence as individuals and in teams.
Value to the Community
Our welcoming and supportive environment promotes the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyally. These skills help in cultivating strength of character and self-discipline. We encourage respect for the land through land conservation and for others through service and teamwork. Volunteers are the heart of our club, being the only sports group in our small farming community we are fortunate to have significant support from local farming families and the greater community. We are fortunate to have a local newsletter that has one page dedicated to horses and horse activities. The community is eager see more horse events at our local grounds and proud of our members achievements. Our community comes together to assist with working bees, ground and building maintenance, event preparation and running. The assistance comes in the way of machinery, labour, rural fire brigade assistance on trail rides to local families cooking for camps and instructors schools.
Why the funds are needed
Every 6 months we contact an equipment check to ensure our equipment is safe and complies with Pony Club NSW policies and procedures. Our recent equipment inspection found that 30 of our existing wooden rails used for show jumping are splitting and exposing splinters as a result of age and ware and tare. It is time to replace the poles and provide a safe environment for horse, rider and volunteers who assist with setting up and packing away the jump equipment. We also require additional breakaway jump cups as we transition our jump wings to be Pony Club NSW compliant. The break away cups are designed to collapse if a horse trips or lands on the jump reducing the risk of entanglement and injury to horse and rider as the poles fall to the ground. The funding requested will be used to purchase the following new equipment: 20 hardwood poles at 3.6 m length and a diameter of 100 mm (Pony club compliant) @ $35 per pole, Total $700 10 pair of breakaway jump cups @ $70 per set Total $700
