About Zoe Frances Hunt

As a junior 10km race walker I have achieved a national qualifier and selection by Athletics Australia to travel to Rome for the the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships May 7-8th. My base has been a Canberra since my early days in Little Athletics age 10 to 17, walking my way around Australia attending the National championships for Schools and Athletics Australia events on numerous Athletics ACT Teams. I have had some amazing opportunities within athletics that have significantly contributed to my walking career, such as training with Kerry Saxby in 2010 or joining Brent Vallance and the AIS olympic athletes for speed sessions as a 12 year old preparing for “the biggest race of her life”- the Australian Little Athletics Championships in April 2011, where I achieved my first national record. Currently I'm training with the NAS athletes at AIS again and couldn't ask for a better squad!

Value to the Individual

This event is a major step for me after 8 years of competitive race walking; I am very appreciative and extremely excited to be representing Australia in Rome this year with hopes to achieve a place in the top 10 and hopefully walk under 46 mins. This international championship is not only significant as my last 10 km competition as a junior walker, but also a stepping stone to future senior international races, such as World Championships in London 2017, or a spot on the Australian walks Team for Commonwealth Games 2018 both definitely goals looking to the future. Athletics is an integral part of my life and has definitely shaped who I am today. The competitions and races, hundreds of kilometres under my belt, the DQs, half finished races, laughs and cries, have all strengthened me both physically and mentally for everything I tackle, work, school and sport alike.

Why the funds are needed

Junior athletes on the Australian Team competing at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships, Rome May 7-8th must pay a team levy of $1500. A Thermoskin Community Sport Fund would greatly assist me to fund my trip to Rome, however I would have competed by the time the winners are decided. A post event amount of $1500 will replace some savings from my current part-time work and work during my college years. In addition to the race in Rome, I will also be travelling to Naumburg, Germany for a second international race, a time trial/preparation for many Rio bound athletes prior to the Olympic games in August. This leg of the trip again is fully self funded, so any funds donated will subsidise accommodation and travel expenses to and from this event. Both competitions overall will expose me to the rigours of international competition at the highest level and will definitely strengthen myself for the future.
