Basketball and netball are extremely popular sports in Australia, with more than one million players nationally. These fast-paced games are loved the world over for its combination of strength, agility, accuracy and athleticism. As a player you are constantly jumping, running at high speeds and diving for balls. Due to these dynamic movements and fast pace play, basketballer’s joints are susceptible to stain and injury. That is why ankle, elbow and knee braces are commonly seen on the court, these braces stabilise your joints preventing and soothing injuries without limiting your ability to dribble down the court and shoot baskets.
Thermoskin has a range of braces and supports suited for sports such as basketball and netball, designed to make you feel strong, confident and unstoppable on the court.
Don’t just take our word for it, WNBL and 3x3 Basketballer Maddie Garrick says, “I’m excited to partner with Thermoskin. As an elite athlete, performance is everything and there is no time for injury. I feel supported and confident to move, not only on the court but also during training and recovery after the game.”

If you play Basketball or Netball, you have a high risk of developing knee injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears, ligament injures and jumpers’ knee (patellar tendonitis). To prevent these kinds of knee injuries it is recommended to wear a Thermoskin knee support, this will not only provide protection but enhance your knees stability whilst playing. Adding compression to your knee will also increasing blood flow to this area helping to speed up your recovery.
Ankle injuries are common in all sports but are especially common is basketball and netball due to its high impact movements, fast change of direction and jumping. Landing wrong can cause mild injuries such as ankle sprains or more major injuries such as Achilles’ tendon raptures. To decrease the likelihood of overworking your ankles we recommend you wear our Thermoskin Ankle Defence Support to help prevent injuries, as worn by WNBL player Maddie Garrick on TV. Much like a knee brace wearing an ankle brace/support will increase blood flow to the ankle which aids in speeding up muscle recovery and pain management.
Many contact sports cause hand injuries, damaging wrist and fingers are very common in ball sports. Jammed finger and Proximal Interphalangeal Joint (PIP) of the fingers are the most common injuries that occur when playing basketball or netball. To avoid getting these kinds of injuries we recommend wearing our Sports Wrist Support to boost circulation and provide protection and for jammed thumbs using our Thermoskin Sports Thumb Support.
Thermoskin supports and braces help to stabilise joints whilst allowing you to move freely, soothing sore muscles and assisting to relieve pain. Allowing you to get the most out of each movement, enhancing exercise for better results, providing compression for faster recovery and helping to protect you from injury. Like with any injury it is good practice to give yourself a break from sport until an assessment can be made by a health care professional, such as a physiotherapist or your local GP. For minor injuries, treatment usually includes RICE, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.
